The Naming of the Bikes

June 19, 2010

After a few more days riding the plains of Kansas, we still have some mixed feelings about the state.

It’s windy, but it has some dream-like landscapes divided into wheat fields and blue sky and an audience of cows mooing us on.

It’s hot (around 98 today,) but when we stop for shade we find nice people like Janet (12) and James (10) who offer us water and let us play with their pets (Ike the kitten and Trixie the dog,) We also find real country stores with amazing pulled pork sandwiches!

We have had the pleasure of riding along with Wim, Bruce, and Trent. They are each on solo tours going west, and through out the day we get to enjoy their company on the road and set up camp with them at night.

Today we got into Nickerson, Kansas after a scorching ride, and I decided it was time for a beer for us and our bikes . . . You guessed it we conducted a long overdue Bike Naming Ceremony. With this blog post I would like to introduce to you Scout Murphy, Bickity Bike Jones, and Trixie Korein ( decided before we met Trixie the dog.)

I’ll just let the pictures describe the ceremony . . . It was magical and very offical of course. Yes, face paint was involved.

Looking forward to the hot heat of tomorrow,
Jenny

Phil’s GMA quote of the day:

“The peloton is passing a field of cows. This region of France is known for its bovine……..Of course, none of that matters to any of the riders, except that they might like a nice steak at the end of day.”

Phil’s GMA quote of the day:

“…and now these surgeons of cycling are navigating this rugged French(Kansas)countryside over ‘roads made for animals…”

Yes for the bike-naming ceremony! I love it. Plus, an offering to the pachamama. Good thinking 😉
